Set up Wireless broadband in four simple steps

*If you've ordered a landline it may take a little longer to activate.

Before I order Wireless Broadband

Incompatible services

Although regular calling works exactly the same on Wireless Broadband, some services that need a standard copper landline won't work. These include:

  • Monitored medical alarms and monitored security alarms that work over a phone line
  • Fax
  • EFTPOS
  • The SKY remote to download SKY "pay per view" movies or games, or SKY betting. You can still order SKY "pay per view" movies or games by calling SKY TV

If you need to use any of these services, you will need to choose a different broadband connection that uses a copper landline like ADSL or VDSL.

Once you've activated your Wireless Connection your existing home phone will work as normal when plugged into the back of the modem, however if you have multiple phones in other rooms that are connected via the jackpoint in the wall, these will no longer work.

If you want to have phones in more than one room we recommend using a cordless (DECT) phone with multiple handsets that you can use throughout your home.

No. Our Wireless broadband modem is currently not able to support Static IPs. If you currently have a Static IP Wireless Services will not be suitable for you.

Once I've received my modem

Quick tips and fixes

Check there is a blue light showing on your modem, if there's not switch your modem off and wait 5 seconds before rebooting to activate your connection. If you still don't have a dial tone or internet access please try the reset button at the back of your modem, hold this down for 15 seconds until all the lights turn off.

If you've ordered a landline it can take up to 30 minutes to activate. If you are having issues with your landline first check that it is connected correctly with the grey phone cable in your modem box. Plug one end of this into your phone then the other end into the grey port at the back of the modem.

For more information see Wireless Broadband Setup.

Tip: If you are using a cordless phone make sure it has power as your modem will not power portable phones.

Finding the best spot for your modem is all about where you can get a good signal from the cell tower outside your home, and transmit a good WiFi signal to your devices inside your home (and having a power point nearby).

Start with a location that is:

  • Central to the rooms in the house where you use your devices on WiFi
  • Near a window

Tip: Try a few different locations in your house and see which is giving you the best signal by using our Spark speed test.

My Wireless Landline

On your new Wireless landline, your home phones will run over the Spark 4G mobile network. This means the jackpoints in your home will no longer work.

For more information see Wireless Broadband Setup.

Tip: Make sure your phone is powered up before you connect it to your Wireless Modem as this device does not power portable phones

Once you've activated your Wireless Connection your existing home phone will work as normal when plugged into the back of the modem. If you have a cordless (DECT) phone, you'll still need to have the base station connected to power. If you have multiple phones in other rooms that are connected via the jackpoint in the wall, these will not work.

If you want to have phones in more than one room we recommend using a cordless (DECT) phone with multiple handsets that you can use throughout your home.

Just like our copper and fibre landline plans, there are heaps of add-ons and feature packs for Wireless. If you have a copper line already, there are some add-ons that aren't available with a wireless landline, these are:

  • Home 0800
  • Call Track
  • Hotline
  • Freedom
  • Talk it up neighbouring area
  • Non-code access (NCA)
Note: That means you won't be able to use another company to make your toll calls and any toll calls you do make will be charged to your Spark account.
  • Faxability
  • Dual number and distinctive ring

IMPORTANT: If there's a power cut, you won't be able to make phone calls from your landline. That's really important if you ever need to make a *111 emergency call so it's worth having a mobile phone that is always charged.

Talker/Advanced Plan ($4/month)

Connector/Premium Plan ($8/month)

Some of the Wireless Landline features require you to activate them. You can do this via MySpark or by using the quick dial codes listed in our User Guide (PDF).

You can view your current landline settings by logging in to MySpark, selecting Products and Services then Landline Settings in the navigation bar. Here you can view and change your current feature pack settings like call diversion, see your current calling plan and upgrade.

My Wireless Broadband

Wireless Broadband uses Spark's great 4G network. So you can expect a solid broadband connection that is similar in speed to a 4G connection, typically faster than ADSL broadband. The quality of your connection will depend on your signal strength which is affected by interference from things like concrete buildings, hills and valleys. In a nutshell, it will be slightly different for every customer.

You can keep track of your data usage through MySpark and easily top-up your data if you need more, but if you are currently on a 60GB or 120GB plan you may find the data limit isn’t enough.

If you reach your monthly data cap, you will automatically receive 10GB of additional data for $10. Once you exceed this, you can purchase a data extra of 10GB of data for $10 through MySpark.

No one likes nasty surprises. So it's well worth keeping an eye on your usage by signing up for usage alerts. You'll then get notifications via email or text so you'll always know where you're at.

You can easily set up usage alerts in MySpark by clicking on the Usage alerts button underneath your Wireless broadband data usage. We'll notify you when you are at 80% and 100% of your data limit.

No. When you ordered Spark Wireless Broadband you gave an address to have the service connect at. The modem won't work it you take it outside your installed location. If you are moving and would like to use your Spark Home Wireless modem at your new address, contact us and we will organise your move and check the availability at your new place.

You can find all sorts of information about your bill on our Billing Help page, including information on how to understand your first bill and pro-rata charges.

We're so sure you’ll love your new speed, we've got a 30 day network guarantee. So if you're not totally happy with your signal strength or you can't get the service at your address, just give us a call on 0800 550 067 to cancel your plan, return the modem, and we'll refund your monthly plan charge. See terms and conditions for more information.
