International calling access codes

  1. When calling another country from New Zealand, type in the access code 00.
  2. Find the country you're wanting to call from the list below, and type in the code.
  3. Enter the area code (without the zero if the number starts with a zero), and phone number you're wanting to call.
  4. The number on your phone should look like this example: 00 + 61 (Australia) + 7 (area code) + 12345678 (phone number).

National calling rates

Calling New Zealand from overseas

If you're overseas contact the local operator for the country's access code. Then:

  1. Type in the access code for the country you're calling from.
  2. Type in New Zealand's country code (64).
  3. Type in the local area code for the area you're ringing, without the zero (see the list above).
  4. Type in the phone number.
  5. The number on your phone should be similar to this: 0011 + 64 + 7 (area code) + 12345678 (phone number).

Calling directory assistance (018)

  • Use directory assistance to get the details for people or businesses in New Zealand.
  • From New Zealand, call 018.
  • 0172 was a number that could be called to obtain contact details for people overseas. This service is no longer offered. Please search the internet for overseas contact details.
  • There is a charge to make calls to this service. Charges for Spark customers are:
