Use the Spark mobile app

Use the Spark mobile app to manage your account. Find out about the Spark mobile app basics.

Start using the Spark mobile app

  • The Spark mobile app is available on iOS 8, 9 and 10, as well as Android 4, 5 and 6. Get the app from the App Store or Google Play and keep it updated. This way you'll always have access to the latest features.
  • To use the app, you'll need to sign in using your Spark ID. If you haven't used the Spark mobile app before, you'll need to register when you open the app for the first time
  • Use the app to manage your account, check your data usage, manage data caps or pay a bill.
  • We'll ask for permission to access your contacts when you open the Spark mobile app for the first time. This is so we can show the correct name linked to your phone number within the app.

Note: If you're on a corporate mobile plan, you can still use the app to check your usage. You won’t be able to see the full account details.

Track usage of other mobile numbers

  1. You'll need the mobile user’s permission first.
  2. Select the menu icon to the bottom right of the screen. It looks like three lines stacked on top of each other.
  3. Select Add a plan, select Add a mobile.
  4. Type in the mobile number you want to add. We'll text a code to that number.
  5. Type in the code.

Change your password

  1. Select the menu icon to the bottom right of the screen. It looks like three lines stacked on top of each other.
  2. Select settings.
  3. Under the Security section, select Change password. Follow the instructions on screen.
  4. We’ll email you to confirm the change was successful.

An important note about passwords

  • Chat with us via Live Chat if you get a prompt to enter a password you haven't set up.
  • We can remove the password or change it to a four-digit pin.
  • You'll need to type this in when you use the app when the pin is set up.

Top up your account (Prepay)

  1. Select the menu icon to the bottom right of the screen. It looks like three lines stacked on top of each other.
  2. Select Top up.
  3. Select the mobile number you want to top up, and select Continue.
  4. Choose how much you want to top up by moving the slider left to right.
  5. If you want to top up an amount greater than $50, select Custom amount.
  6. If your top up is a one-off, select Top up. Type in your credit card details and you’re done.

Note: If you've got a Spark voucher, follow the same steps above. When you get to step three, select Voucher after Continue. Follow the instructions on screen. You can also set up an automatic top up. Follow the same steps as above. Then at step five, you'll see a white button next to Auto top up. Follow the instructions on screen. Buy extras

  1. Select the menu icon to the bottom right of the screen. It looks like three lines stacked on top of each other.
  2. Select Buy extras.
  3. If you have more than one mobile number linked to the app, select the number you want to buy the extra for.
  4. Select the extra you want. You can buy data, texts and minutes on their own, or buy one of our value packs.
  5. Select Buy.
    • Note: If you don’t have enough credit, you'll need to top up your balance before you can buy the extra.
  6. Select Buy again to confirm.
  7. You'll get a text to let you know when your extra is ready. If you're a Pay Monthly customer, the cost of the extra will appear on your next Spark bill.

You can also set up an automatic payment for extras. Follow the same steps as above. Then at step five, you'll see a white button next to Auto pay. Follow the instructions on screen.

View or pay a bill

  1. Select the menu icon to the bottom right of the screen. It looks like three lines stacked on top of each other.
  2. Select Pay my bill.
  3. If you have more than one Spark plan or account, select the one you want to view or pay.
  4. Follow the instructions on screen. Note: credit card payments attract convenience charges. Find out more

Update your credit/debit card details

  1. Select the menu icon to the bottom right of the screen. It looks like three lines stacked on top of each other.
  2. Select settings.
  3. Under Accounts and services, select the mobile number you want to update.
  4. Under Credit/debit card, select Use a different card.
  5. Follow the instructions on screen.

Check usage for mobile and broadband

When you open the app, your usage is the first screen that appears. If you have broadband with Spark, you'll see the word Broadband at the top of the screen. It's displayed next to any mobile numbers attached to your account. Select the number or broadband plan to see the usage. You can also view plan details and usage by selecting the icon that looks like an open box. It's second from left on the bottom of the screen. If you've not added your broadband details to the app yet, follow the instructions below:

  1. Select the menu icon to the bottom right of the screen. It looks like three lines stacked on top of each other.
  2. Select My plans and accounts.
  3. Select Add a plan.
  4. Select Add a Broadband plan.
    • Note: If you've got a Naked Broadband plan you'll need your line number as well as your Spark account number. Find the line number on your Spark bill. If the number starts with 1xxxxxxxxx, add a zero to the front.
  5. Type in your Spark account number and phone number (or line number if it's Naked Broadband).

Switch notifications/data usage alerts on and off

  1. Select the menu icon to the bottom right of the screen. It looks like three lines stacked on top of each other.
  2. Select settings.
  3. Under Accounts and services, select the mobile number you want to update.
  4. To turn notifications or data usage alerts on or off, select the corresponding button. If the white button is to the left, notifications are off. If it's to the right, notifications are on.

Note: You can set up notifications/data usage alerts to other Spark mobile numbers. Scroll down on the Alerts & Notifications page to add another number.

Set up or change a mobile data limit

  1. Select the menu icon to the bottom right of the screen. It looks like three lines stacked on top of each other.
  2. Select settings.
  3. Under Accounts and services, select the mobile number you want to update.
  4. To set up a data limit for within New Zealand, select NZ data limit under Smart caps.
  5. To set up a data limit for overseas, select Roaming data limit.
  6. Select your spending limit for New Zealand or roaming mobile data.
  7. Select OK.
