We will text you our roaming support details, so make sure you keep the message in case you need to call us. Our number is also stored on your Spark SIM and is in the Spark Roaming app.

iPads and tablets can’t receive texts so if you would like to receive usage alerts, please set these up with another device here.

You don’t need to do anything, just turn your mobile or tablet on when you land in your destination where Spark roaming has coverage and it will work. Some mobiles turn data roaming off by default, so if you want to use data while roaming, it’s a good idea to check if it’s switched on in your mobile settings. However, we recommended buying a roaming and/or data pack where available if you haven’t done so already.

To give you an idea of how much data you might use while roaming, have a look at the below table. Note this is a guide only, estimates are based on average Smartphone consumption using 3G network doing that single activity only, therefore not taking into account the background services your device may be using at that time. Data usage will vary across devices and network used.

Roaming Data Smart Caps - Casual Roaming Rates

With our Roaming Data Smart caps it's easy to control how much you spend on data roaming so there are no big surprises on your bill.

How they work

If you're a Pay Monthly, Prepaid or Business customer (excluding Spark Digital), a cap of $150 will automatically be applied to your mobile number. This cap is for data casual rates only and doesn’t include any Roaming Packs.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE: The cap only applies to roaming data. Any calls you make or texts you send while overseas, or any national data that you use, won't be counted or restricted.

If you reach that casual data amount we will stop your usage, and text you to let you know. The text will also have a link so you can increase the cap if you want to.

Increasing or decreasing data your limit

To change your data limit before you leave just head to http://m.spark.co.nz/rsc on your mobile device and follow the steps.

Alternatively, to change your limit when you receive our alert, just click on the link in the message we send you and follow the steps at our secure website.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE: Just be aware that while you can increase the cap at any time, you can only decrease it if you are still under the amount for your latest cap.
