PC and Mac Email Programs

If your program is not listed below, select one that is close to what you have or check the help section of your program.

  1. Open Outlook
  2. Click Tools
  3. Select Accounts
  4. Highlight your POP3 email account
  5. Click Properties
  6. Select the Servers tab
  7. Enter send.xtra.co.nz for Outgoing mail (SMTP)
  8. Tick My server requires authentication under Outgoing Mail Server
  9. Click Settings
  10. Select Log on using
  11. Enter your Xtra username (this is your email address without @xtra.co.nz)
  12. Enter your Xtra password
  13. Click Ok
  14. Select the Advanced tab
  15. Make sure the This server requires a secure connection box is selected for your Outgoing Server
  16. In Outgoing mail (SMTP) enter 465
  17. Click Ok
  18. Click Close to save the changes

  17. Confirm that the correct username is in the Username field
  18. Confirm that the correct password is in the Password field
  19. Click OK
  20. Close the Accounts window to save your settings

  1. Launch Thunderbird
  2. Click Tools
  3. Click Account Settings
  4. From the left hand panel, select Outgoing Server (SMTP)
  5. Highlight your email address and click Edit
  6. Enter send.xtra.co.nz in Server Name
  7. Enter 465 in port
  8. Select Use name and password (Normal Password is selected for Authentication Method in Thunderbird 3+)

  10. Select SSL

  1. Select Settings from the Home screen

Outgoing Server Settings

These are the only settings you should need to update in your email account:

  • Outgoing mail server: send.xtra.co.nz
  • Tick Uses SSL
  • Port: 465
  • Tick Outgoing server requires authentication
  • Outgoing Server Username: Your Xtra email username
    (This is your email address without @xtra.co.nz)
  • Outgoing Server Password: Your Xtra email password
