We believe the first meaningful use case of 5G in New Zealand is for​ 5G wireless broadband. It will be faster than speeds previously available, improving the streaming and gaming experience for those using wireless broadband.

Once 5G becomes more widespread for mobile devices, it will offer massive data bandwidth and fibre-like speeds on mobile while you're out and about.

5G mobile devices will be available when Spark rolls out with the government 3500MHZ spectrum in July 2020 (spectrum dependant).

Mobile technology is continuously evolving over time, as we've seen with 1G, 2G, 3G and 4G. The roll out of 5G around New Zealand will take time and will require the use of particular phones and modems, so the 4G and 3G networks will be with us for quite some years yet.
