Block websites by specific categories

Customise what gets filtered at different times of the day

Allowed websites only

  1. How do you block websites?
We use DNS and IP addresses to help protect you. When you turn Net Shield on, it becomes your DNS for routing internet traffic to and from your office. When you type in a website or IP address, it compares that to the websites you have entered to allow or block and your chosen filters and either allows you access or redirects you to our notification page to let you know its blocked.

  2. How do I set it up?
    1. Basic - We have built all the Net Shield functions into your MySpark dashboard to make it easy to set up and make changes. On the basic version you simply opt in and once confirmed Net Shield will start filtering content for our pre-determined categories.
    2. Premium - On the premium version there are 17 different categories of content. We have organised these by level of risk into High to Low. Alternatively you can select specific categories to customise and suit your specific needs by using the Custom filter. You can also choose to apply specific filters at different times of the day e.g. low filtering during lunchtime and high during other times of the workday. If there are any website that you need to use - you can choose 20 website domains to be allowed. You can also block 20 websites.

  3. How safe is it really?
Whilst Net Shield cannot provide 100% coverage across all internet traffic, we are confident Net Shield is a step in the right direction. Combined with the right education and some personal monitoring, you can be assured that your staff should be protected from most of the content you don’t want them to access.

  4. Can my staff get around it?
This is a common question as a lot of cyber security programs and apps require installation on a device and can be turned off or removed by more enterprising users. As Net Shield Business sits outside of your office environment, there is no risk of being disabled without permission. Once someone is connected to your WiFi network, the Net Shield rules apply.

  5. Do you record information about me?
Your privacy is of utmost importance to us. You can rest assured that Net Shield is not spying on you, nor is it providing any information to third parties. It performs the same function as a DNS service - it receives requests from you to direct internet traffic, and it will respond to you with the website or a special notification page.

  6. How do I get Net Shield?
Net Shield is available to all Spark Broadband customers who can access MySpark online. Simply log onto your MySpark account and switch Net Shield on.

  7. What devices does Net Shield work with?
Net Shield works with any device connected to your Spark Broadband home network using WiFi or Ethernet cable, including smartphones, laptops, computers, tablets and games consoles. If you're browsing with 3G or 4G, you won't be protected by Net Shield as you'll need to be connected to your home or business network. As it works across all devices, you don’t have to change the settings on each one individually. Remember: Net Shield is not an antivirus application, so we recommend you install dedicated antivirus software for each of your devices.

  8. What doesn’t Net Shield protect me from?
Net Shield will not work for devices roaming on 3G/4G networks or if you're on a WiFi connection outside of your Spark Broadband network. Net Shield will not block access to search engines, so unsuitable sites may still appear in search results. We can't guarantee that it will stop every inappropriate site or online bullying/grooming.

  9. How do I upgrade from basic to premium?
Simply log into your MySpark and on your Net Shield dashboard you can select upgrade to premium. You will receive a notification when the change is complete, and the monthly charges will be added to your Broadband bill.

  10. Can I cancel the service and are there any penalties?
You can cancel, downgrade or temporarily switch Net Shield Business off at any time with no penalties. **When you downgrade or cancel from Net Shield Premium a pro rata charge will apply. For more information refer to our Term and Conditions.
