Broadband is not available in all areas. Factors such as distance from our equipment, or the network's capacity, means we may be unable to deliver Spark broadband to a specific address.  

Sometimes further checks are required before we can know if you can get Spark broadband. In some situations, for example with complex Fibre installations or Rural installations, we won't be able to confirm whether you can get Spark broadband until we, our contractors or agents, have commenced installation.   

For this reason and the other reasons set out here, we don't guarantee service until installation is complete and your connection line has been tested.  

These terms apply to Spark business customers with a business account, unless you've signed a separate written agreement with Spark New Zealand Trading Limited

Important things to know about Wireless Broadband

Power cuts and 111 emergencies 

• Wireless services do not work in the event of a power cut. This means the landline or devices such as cordless phones and other devices (like medical alarms) may not be able to work - even if they have a battery. This could impact your ability to contact 111 emergency services.  
• Make sure you have another way to access 111 in an emergency.  We recommend you have an alternative method, such as a charged mobile phone or a power backup device such as an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to keep you connected.  

Vulnerable consumers 

• If you're a Spark account holder and either you or someone in your household needs to contact 111 services on your landline for medical, disability or security reasons, Spark will provide eligible customers a suitable device to contact 111 in the event of a power cut. To apply, you'll need to download and complete a Vulnerable Consumer form after you've submitted your order. For more information visit spark.co.nz/vulnerable
• Under the Commerce Commission's 111 Contact Code, it's our responsibility to provide extra support to people who qualify for it, for health, disability or safety reasons. Whatever the situation, we'll never refuse to provide you with a landline just because you need this extra support.   

Wireless modems 

1. Spark 4G and 5G Wireless Broadband plans require a Spark modem. 
2. Modem is not included but can be purchased from Spark at an additional cost. If you purchase a modem from Spark, it may not be compatible with other Spark broadband services or other service providers' services. 
3. Modem interest free payment options available, terms apply. See interest free options 
4. Outstanding interest free payments must be paid in full if you leave Spark or change to a broadband technology where interest free payments are not available. 
5. Modem postage and handling fee applies. 
6. If you choose a Wireless plan that includes a landline, check with the provider of any existing services such as monitored alarms, fax and EFTPOS to make sure they work with this service.  

Place of use 

• You may only use your Spark Wireless Broadband modem to receive the service at the installed location. If you use it at another location, we may suspend, disconnect, or restrict your Spark Wireless Broadband service without notice. We need to manage our 4G network to give all customers a reliable and consistent service; if customers move their modem to a new area, this limits our ability to do this. 
• If you move location, let us know beforehand so we can confirm what broadband options are available and get you correctly set up for your move.

Check availability

Portable Broadband can only be used in locations that have 4G cell coverage. Using the Network Coverage tool, check to see if an address is in Spark's 4G cell network area. If it is, then you can use Portable Broadband there

Note: Coverage maps are updated on a monthly basis around mid-month. They may not reflect the coverage we have available today due to the timing of updates and the nature of coverage being predicted. If you’re in a rural area and a nearby site has recently been activated you will see reception bars and the words 'Spark NZ' displayed at the top of your mobile. This will indicate that you can now use Portable Broadband at that rural location.  

Portable modems 

• Modem not included, but can be purchased from Spark at an additional cost. If you purchase a modem from Spark, it may not be compatible with Spark's other broadband services or other broadband providers' services. 
• For the modem compatible with this plan, interest-free payments are available. Terms apply. See interest free options

Power cuts

The Spark Wireless Broadband modem requires mains power, so broadband services will not be available in the event of a power failure. We recommend having a charged mobile phone available for use during power outages. 

Landline 

Portable Broadband does not include any landline service or is available for any landline add-on.

Both ADSL and VDSL use the copper line network (like a traditional home phone line).   If you are in the same area, you can keep your current number or pick a new one. Otherwise, we can allocate a number for you.  

Installation

When you order VDSL we offer a standard connection. You will still need a compatible modem. When you sign up for a 12 month contract standard installation a modem is free too.  

At the installation, the modem will be connected to the new VDSL jack point. The jack point and modem should be installed where you will most use the internet; for example, next to a centrally located TV or in an office for desktop computers.

Installation 

Rural Wireless Broadband connects your home to our network via a 4G wireless connection. Rural Wireless Broadband may be offered in certain areas within the Spark 4G coverage area. 4G coverage is not available everywhere. Spark does not guarantee that the service can be supplied at a particular location. Your location may also require an external antenna installed with your Rural Wireless Broadband connection. Spark's Wireless Broadband, Portable, Rural and Fibre service don't use a copper connection or phone jack points. You can use portable cordless phones if you need multiple phones at your location.

Your existing phone calling will work as normal when plugged into the back of the modem. If it's a cordless (DECT) phone, you’ll still need to have the base station connected to power. If you have multiple phones in other rooms that are connected via the jack point in the wall, these will not work.

If you want to use multiple phones, we recommend using a cordless (DECT) phone with multiple handsets.

Adding landline to your business plan

When you add a landline to your business plan, you will receive unlimited calling to mobiles and landlines in Australia and around New Zealand.

National calling

Excludes calling cards 059, 0161, premium numbers (0900 and any international equivalent), calls made via Home 0800 or International 0800.

Mobile calling

Doesn't include calls to mobiles of overseas visitors roaming in New Zealand.
