We’re changing how our notifications work from 20 September 2020, to make them more helpful to you.
Changes to broadband notifications.
At the moment, we get in touch when you’re reaching the end of your plan’s data allowance. Then again when you’re reaching the end of any data extra packs you add. But from 20 September, we’ll only send notifications when you’re running out of your total data, including data extra packs. We’ll also tell you how much data you have left, instead of how much you’ve used.
Changes to mobile notifications.
If you have multiple data packs on your plan, from 20 September we’ll let you know when you’ve reached the end of your total data, instead of the end of each data pack. We’ll also tell you how much data you have left, instead of how much you’ve used. And if you’re on a plan with limited texts or calls, we’ll now let you know when you’re running out of those too.
A note about work phones: If your business or employer currently sets the usage thresholds that notify you, these are not affected by the change. You’ll continue to receive alerts as you do today.
Changes to tiered broadband and mobile plans.
When you’re on a tiered mobile or broadband plan, such as Unplan Broadband or Business Flex Mobile, you move between price tiers based on how much data you use. At the moment, we get in touch when you’re reaching the end of each price tier. Then again when you’ve moved into the next tier. But from 20 September, we’ll only send a notification once you’ve gone over your price tier from last month. So, if you normally use the same amount of data each month, you’ll hear from us less. And if you do use more data, we’ll let you know.
A note about Covid impacts: To avoid the possibility of bill shock, we won't apply the check for last month’s usage any time our Covid relief is removed. This usually occurs when any part of New Zealand moves from Alert Level 3 to Level 2. You will get alerts for nearing and reaching each pricing tier.
These changes should keep your inbox a little cleaner. To view or manage your usage notifications, head to MySpark. Or check your usage history through the Spark app or MySpark.
