Socialiser products terms and conditions

Your Spark Mobile Postpaid Agreement or the Spark Mobile Prepaid Agreement (whichever is relevant to you) applies in addition to the following terms and conditions.

$9 Socialiser terms and conditions

  • These terms apply in addition to Socialiser terms and conditions (set out below)
  • $9 Socialiser extra is valid for one month on a Pay Monthly plan, and four weeks if bought on Prepaid. You can buy multiple $9 Socialiser extras per line. 
  • The order of Socialiser data use when you buy multiple Socialiser products: 
  • The $9 Socialiser extra that expires first will get used first
  • Once your Socialiser data has been used, your plan, pack or extra data will be used in order of expiry

Free Socialiser for six months 10GB/month terms and conditions

  • If you opt in for the Free Socialiser for six months 10GB/month (Free Socialiser) these terms will apply in addition to Socialiser terms and conditions (set out below)
  • You can opt in to the Free Socialiser between 30 October 2018 - 4 February 2019. It will be valid for six months from the date you opt in. To use your Free Socialiser you must be on an eligible pack or plan.
  • Eligible packs and plans include: 
  • $19 and above Prepaid Value Packs
  • $29.99 and above Pay Monthly plans
  • Free Socialiser isn’t available on the $79.99 Unlimited Mobile, $99.99 Unlimited Group and $29.99 Unlimited Companion plans
  • You’ll need to keep your eligible pack or plan renewed to continue to receive the Free Socialiser. Prepaid customers will need to ensure they top up.
  • You can only have one instance of Free Socialiser per line. If you have another Socialiser product (for example $9 Socialiser), Free Socialiser will be added to your existing Socialiser data allowance. 
  • You aren’t required to keep your $9 Socialiser product to be redeem Free Socialiser
  • You can keep your Free Socialiser if you move between eligible plans
  • If you’re on an eligible plan and haven’t opted in for Free Socialiser, text ADD SOCIAL to 258 to receive Free Socialiser

  • These terms and conditions apply if you have a Socialiser plan with Spark
  • Socialiser is for New Zealand domestic data traffic only. If you roam internationally you’ll incur normal data roaming charges. 
  • Socialiser data renews every month while you’re on an eligible pack or plan. For Prepaid customers, Socialiser will deactivate on the day that your eligible pack expires if you haven't renewed it.
  • Standard data charges apply after your Socialiser data allowance has been used up or the term of your Socialiser plan expires (whatever occurs first). If you have data included in your plan and your Socialiser is used up or expires, this data will be consumed. If your data has been used up or you don’t have any data, casual data rates will be applied. 
  • Socialiser data doesn’t rollover at the end of each month (if you’re a Pay Monthly customer) or four-week period (if you’re a Prepaid customer)
  • Socialiser only works with official Android (2.1+ or later) and iOS (4 or later) operating systems (Compatible Device) 
  • Socialiser is only available to Spark consumer and business customers. Socialiser isn’t available to Spark Digital customers.
  • If you are on the Socialiser for the life of your plan:  
  • You can only have one Free Socialiser for six months 10GB/month subscription per line
  • We may decide to stop providing the plan that enabled you to receive Socialiser for the life of your plan. This will mean you no longer receive Socialiser for the life of your plan. 
  • We’ll try to tell you at least one month before we stop providing any Socialiser service. We may do this by sending you an SMS, emailing or writing to you or by calling you.

Included applications

Socialiser can only be used for the official mobile app for Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Twitter and Spotify from a Compatible Device (included apps)

Socialiser exclusions

Socialiser can’t be used for the following:

  • Alert services (for example, SMS notifications from apps)
  • Accessing video and content hosted on other sites
  • Accessing the included apps via any indirect means, including third-party applications
  • Accessing external links via the included apps
  • Some of the functions within the Spotify app, including:
  • Video streaming
  • Album artwork displayed on screen
  • Song downloads
  • Advertisements that the service providers may insert into the app. These can be video ads or banner ads.
  • Any analytics sent from the music provider to understand your music preferences and usage
  • Authentication, for example, when the app confirms your login

Most smartphones are set to seek data automatically in the background (for example, email or other apps). This will use the internet and, in some cases, charges will apply.

In some cases, as per Facebook policy, cached Facebook data takes 24 hours to refresh, so users may see chargeable data. To manually clear the cache we recommend uninstalling the app and reinstalling it. 

There are other instances where Socialiser can't be used and charges will apply. This includes the following:

  • The use of voice and video call features
  • External links in newsfeed, timelines, walls, etc.
  • External URLs in comments, messages, etc.
  • Links to applications
  • Links to external advertisements
  • Enabling or navigating to features that rely on location services
  • Facebook features that navigate you out of the site and/or application such as Get directions, Buy tickets, etc., and/or importing contacts from an external email domain, clicking on a user's email address and so on
  • Background camera app usage on Facebook
  • Pages Manager apps on Facebook
  • Using the Opera browser on Facebook or Twitter on your mobile
