Learn about interest free payments

With interest free payments, you can pay off your item via monthly payments. You can choose to spread the cost over:

  • 12 months
  • 18 months
  • 24 months
  • 36 months

Important information for mobile devices and accessories

  • The device must cost at least $199 incl. GST, after any applicable subsidy, upfront payment or promotion
  • To be eligible for interest free payments, you need to have an active Pay Monthly Mobile or Broadband plan.
  • Setting up interest free payments for some situations will require an upfront payment of at least $99 (the exact amount depends on your credit assessment).
    • All 36 month interest free terms
    • All purchases of a mobile device worth $1000 or more (does not apply to business customers)
    • You might also need to pay an upfront fee for shorter interest free options, or cheaper mobile devices, depending on your credit assessment.
    • This excludes the console included with Xbox All Access sold via Spark from 1 August 2023. These are on a 24 month interest free term only and no upfront payment is required.
  • Interest free payment options are available:
    • When you are on an eligible Pay Monthly plan and purchase a device or selected accessory that costs at least $199 incl. GST, after any subsidy, promotion or upfront payment is applied
    • When you are over the age of 18 years and pass a credit assessment 
    • When you buy selected items online, over the phone or from a Spark store
    • When Spark Digital customers order mobile devices through MySpark Digital. Sign in to MySpark Digital
    • When new Spark Broadband customers join on an eligible plan and take up an interest free payment offer (this offer is not available online)

Important information for Broadband Modem Interest Free payments

The following information applies to Spark broadband modems on interest free payments only. For devices and accessories criteria please see above important information.

  • No minimum cost for broadband modems being placed on an interest free payment term.
  • When purchasing a broadband modem on interest free payments there is no upfront payment required on any of the available terms (12, 18, 24 or 36 months)
  • Broadband modem interest free payments are available if you already have a device or accessory on Interest Free Payment on your account.
  • To be eligible for interest free payments on a broadband modem, you need to have signed up for a fibre or wireless broadband or have an active fibre or wireless connection with us at the time of purchase.
  • The interest free payment must be billed on the same account as the wireless or fibre connection.
  • If you disconnect your fibre or wireless plan or move to a broadband technology where interest free payments are not available with outstanding interest free payments, the outstanding installments will be billed on your next billing statement.
Broadband Interest Free payment options available;
  • When you purchase a new eligible Fibre or Wireless Plan online, over the phone or from a Spark store and opt to purchase a new modem from Spark.
  • When you change your broadband technology to wireless or fibre with us, or move to a new address and require a new modem hardware for your plan.
  • Your current modem has stopped working, and a replacement is no longer covered under the original warranty or you wish to upgrade to a newer modem model.

Important information for Xbox All Access Interest Free Payments

The following information applies only to the Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X consoles purchased as part of Xbox All Access on interest free payments. For other devices and accessories, see the important information above.

  • When you purchase an Xbox Series S or Xbox Series X console included with Xbox All Access on interest free payments, there's no upfront payment required on the 24 month term.
  • The Xbox consoles are only available on 24 month interest free term.
  • To be eligible for interest free payments, you need to have an active in-market Spark Pay Monthly mobile, fibre or wireless connection with us at the time of purchase.
  • The interest free payments must be billed on the same account as the Pay Monthly mobile, fibre or wireless connection.
  • Here are the costs associated with your Xbox console on interest free payments. Prices may be subject to change, as per our General Terms.

What interest free payments look like on your Spark bill

Here is some information you'll need to know about your bill if you choose to buy something on interest free payments. Note, these examples are for one type of account. Your own account presentation may vary. 

If you’re spreading payments over 12 instalments, and your Spark account shows GST inclusive charges, it will look like this.

In the Current charges section, the $71.76 comprises $65.09 for GST on your new item and $6.67 for GST on other Spark services:

In this example, $499 is the charge (GST inclusive) and credit for the total cost of your new item. The GST amount of $65.09 is included in the Current Charges section of your bill.

$41.58 is your first instalment. Subsequent instalments will be shown as “Instalment 2 of 12 - Spark XX" and so on. 

If you’re spreading payments over 12 instalments, and your Spark account shows GST exclusive charges, it will look like this.

In the Current charges section, the $71.76 comprises $65.09 for GST on your new item and $6.67 for GST on other Spark services:

In this example, $433.91 is the charge (GST exclusive) and credit for the total cost of your new item. The GST amount of $65.09 is included in the Current Charges section of your bill.

$41.58 is your first instalment. Subsequent instalments will be shown as “Instalment 2 of 12 - Spark XX” and so on. This instalment amount has no GST in it.

GST on your first bill

  • The GST on your first bill will appear high as it includes GST for the full cost of the device. A credit covering the GST will also show on your bill.
  • All monthly instalments after your first bill won't include GST. It can take up to two bills to show the cost of your device, GST credit and the first interest free payment.
  • For example, the charge for your device may be in your first bill. The credit and first instalment may appear in your next bill.​​

Paying your term off early

You’ll need to pay off the device with payments each month over your interest free term, i.e. over 12, 18, 24 or 36 months.
 
You can’t make your interest free term longer or shorter while you're paying off the device. But you can choose to finish it early by paying off the full amount you owe in one payment.

Ending contract before paying all instalments

  • You'll need to pay any remaining payments in your next bill. You'll also need to pay any early termination fees or charges.
  • Remaining instalments can't transfer to a different account. This includes if the accounts are on the same customer number.
  • Under the seven day right of return, you can cancel interest free payments. Message us

In the Spark app

  1. Sign in to the Spark app
  2. Select the box icon at the bottom of the screen
  3. Select the down arrow next to the item you want to see interest free payment information for
  4. Select Interest free payments from the menu that appears
  5. If you're paying off more than one item, you can swipe to the left and right to see the payments relating to them

In MySpark

  1. Sign in to MySpark
  2. Hover your mouse over the Products and services dropdown menu and select Interest free payments
  3. You'll see all information relating to your interest free payments
