Set up my PSN SIM

Public Safety Network

The Public Safety Network (PSN) is the new communications service for New Zealand’s frontline emergency services responders. PSN roaming is available for Emergency Services from 18 July 2023.

To use PSN you will need to move to a Public Safety SIM card.

Swap my current SIM card to a physical PSN SIM card

Before starting you will need to:

  1. Complete Spark Order requesting a PSN SIM change.
  2. Receive your Spark PSN SIM card.
  3. Have your existing SIM card or be connected to the Spark network on an alternative device.

If you haven't received your PSN SIM card yet, please contact your admin.

To set up my PSN SIM card

  1. Call the SIM activation number on 0800 785 785.
  2. Follow the prompts for completing a SIM Swap.
  3. When you hear your SIM change is "good to go", you can hang up.
  4. Turn off your device and remove your SIM from your mobile. You may need a paperclip or SIM clip to remove the SIM.
  5. Take care to look at which way the SIM is and the way it sits in the SIM holder. You may need to pop out the PSN SIM to make it smaller depending on your device. Keep the outer case in case you need it in future.
  6. Put the new PSN SIM in the SIM slot the correct way.
  7. Turn your device on and look for Spark PSN service on the top left of the device. This could take 5-10 minutes.
  8. Now make a call to test it works.

If you are still having trouble, contact your Spark Service Desk for support.

Swap my current physical SIM to PSN eSIM

Before starting you'll need to:

  1. Complete Spark Order requesting a PSN SIM change.
  2. Receive your Spark eSIM notification with QR Code.
  3. Connect to WiFi or an alternative connection to set up the eSIM.

To set up my PSN eSIM

  1. Connect to WiFi and remove the physical SIM card from your device. You may want to keep this for future use.
  2. Navigate to your phone settings. See Set up eSIM devices
  3. Add your mobile plan.
  4. You'll be prompted to scan the QR code to set up your eSIM.
  5. Your eSIM should now be ready to use.
