All our Value Packs and Data Lover Packs are set to auto-renew every 4 weeks. To ensure you have sufficient balance we recommend you set up Auto Top Up. If your balance is less than needed we will text you to let you know you need to top up. If you don't top up we will text you to let you know the subscription has been placed on hold for up to 5 days. You will be charged at the Prepaid Plans casual rates over this time. If you don't top up we will text you to let you know the subscription has not been renewed and then you'll be able to top up and re-purchase a subscription. If you do top up during this 5 day period it is important to know that your original renewal date will stay the same (for example if you purchased your Value Pack on 21 October and did not have enough credit for it to automatically renew on 18 November but you top up on 22 November your Extra next renewal date will be 16 December). So to make the most of your Value Pack we strongly encourage you to top up before your renewal date.

What is the Hotspot Extra?

The Unlimited plan provides you with unlimited data to your mobile, but not to other devices. If you want the ability to use some data on other devices, you can purchase a Hotspot Extra to use 10GB of your unlimited data allocation on other devices you own or another person’s device for up to 30 days from purchase. Once you have used your allocation of hotspot or tethering data, you will no longer be able to tether or hotspot on other devices; however, you’ll still be able to use your Unlimited plan data on your mobile.

Can you purchase more than one Hotspot Extra in a month?

No, only one Hotspot Extra can be purchased per month.

Do I need to buy the Hotspot Extra to tether on a plan that isn’t the Unlimited Plan?

Our Unlimited Plan offers unlimited data to your mobile, so you need to buy the Hotspot Extra if you want to use some of your data on other devices. Our other capped data plans allow tethering and hotspots, so you won’t need to buy the Hotspot Extra.

Does the Hotspot Extra count towards the Unlimited Plans 22GB before speeds are reduced?

Yes, any usage from the Hotspot Extra counts towards the 22GB. Once you reach this and your speed is reduced it will also reduce the speeds to any Tethering or Hotspot device until either your next bill cycle or the Hotspot Extra runs out whichever comes first.

Will the Hotspot Extra auto renew every month?

The Hotspot Extra like all our other Extras defaults to a one off. You can turn this onto auto renew when you purchase this extra online or through the Spark App if you choose.

Prepaid Rollover applies only to minute and data allowances included in Spark Rollover Prepaid Packs. Unlimited allowances, Socialiser Data, Mobile Extras, Daily 1GB Wi-Fi, and allowances included any Packs pre-dating 11 September 2017 do not roll over. You may use your Rollover allowance while you remain on a Rollover Pack. Should you move to an ineligible Pack, Extra or Casual Rates (including where your eligible Pack failed to renew at the end of its cycle) your Rollover allowance will be frozen. 365 day expiry period applies to rollover allowances, including when frozen.. will continue to run. If you purchase an eligible Pack within the expiry period, you can continue using your Rollover allowance up until expiry and also accrue new Rollover.

The maximum amount of Rollover you can accumulate is 3.5GB of data and 500 NZ minutes. Once you’ve reached the Rollover maximum, any new quantity will replace the corresponding quantity of oldest data or minutes.   • $9 Socialiser Extra data does not rollover
  • $9 Socialiser is for New Zealand domestic data traffic only, if you roam internationally you will incur normal data roaming charges
  • $9 Socialiser is only available when using the official application for Facebook, Messenger, Spotify and Twitter from a compatible phone. Excludes Facebook SMS, other alert services, and accessing video and content hosted on other sites. Access via any other means including 3rd party applications will use existing data in your plan or incur plan additional data charges applicable on your prepaid and pay monthly plan.   • In some cases, as per Facebook policy, cached Facebook data takes 24 hours to refresh and therefore users may see chargeable data. To manually clear the cache we recommend uninstalling the app and reinstalling it

    3. External URLs in comments, messages, etc

    5. Links to external advertisements

    7. Facebook features that navigate you out of the site and/or application such as “Get Directions”, “Buy Tickets”, etc. and/or importing contacts from an external email domain, clicking on a user’s clicking on a user's email address and so on

    9. Pages Manager Apps on Facebook
    10. Using the Opera browser on Facebook or Twitter on your mobile device
  • $9 Socialiser only works with official Android (2.1+ or later) and iOS (4 or later) operating systems
  • We may decide to stop providing any or any part of our Pay Monthly plans and Prepaid packs to you. If we do this, Socialiser may no longer be available to you. We will try to tell you at least one month before we stop providing the service. We may do this by sending you an SMS, emailing or writing to you, calling you or by putting a notice in major daily newspapers.

What does my 1GB/month Socialiser give me access to?

Our new Spark Socialiser now includes access to Spotify music streaming giving you a massive 1GB/month of data on the Facebook, Messenger, Twitter and Spotify apps, leaving you free to use your plan data for whatever else you need. These inclusions are applicable for existing and new Socialiser customers.

What happens when I have used up my 1GB/month Socialiser data allowance?

Standard data charges apply after the Socialiser 1GB has been used up. If you have data included in your plan, this will be consumed first then casual data rates after that.

You can also buy additional Socialiser subscriptions for $9/month, just text 'BUY 9SOCIAL' to 258.

Do I have to access Facebook, Messenger, Twitter or Spotify though the apps or can I go through a web browser like Google Chrome?

Socialiser is only available when using the official application for Facebook, Messenger, Twitter and Spotify from a compatible phone. Socialiser only works with official Android (2.1+ or later) and iOS (4 or later) operating systems.

Can I access Facebook, Messenger, Twitter or Spotify without using my data when I'm overseas?

Socialiser is for New Zealand domestic data traffic only, if you roam internationally you will incur normal data roaming charges.

Why have I used data from my plan when all I've done is access activity via the apps?

1GB Socialiser data excludes Facebook SMS, other alert services, and accessing video and content hosted on other sites. Access via any other means including 3rd party applications will use existing data in your plan or incur plan additional data charges applicable on your prepaid and pay monthly plan. Additional data charges will also apply for any external links accessed via these sites.

1GB Spotify allowance includes music streaming only. There are some functions within the Spotify app that are may be excluded and will use data from your plan. These include:

  • Video streaming
  • Album artwork displayed on screen
  • Song downloads
  • Advertisements that the service providers may insert into the app, these can be video ads or banner ads
  • Any analytics sent from the music provider to understand your music preferences and usage
  • Authentication, for example, when the app confirms your login

How much data does Spotify use?

The amount of data used depends on the quality option you set in the app. Normal quality (default): 1MB/min (17 hours of streaming to hit 1GB). High quality: 1.5MB/min.

How do I keep my Spotify usage data down?

  • Play music while on Wi-Fi to save on music streaming data.
  • Download music when you have a connection, then listening in Offline mode when Wi-Fi isn't available.
  • If you're streaming with 3G/4G, set the audio quality to Normal.
