Virus Policy

Computer viruses are spread by many means including email, LAN connections, and application programs on disks and CDs. Xtra strongly recommends that customers install and regularly run up-to-date anti-virus software to protect themselves against viruses.

When a new virus emerges, most anti-virus software will require updating to be able to recognise the new virus. This is when viruses are most virulent. It is particularly important to keep anti-virus software "current" by updating the software. Updates are often available from the manufacturer's Web sites.

Xtra takes a proactive approach to Domain Name email attachment viruses. As part of Xtra's Internet access, Xtra currently provides an anti-virus email filter that scans all Domain Name email attachments in real time as they pass through Xtra's mail servers for known viruses. If a virus is detected, the virus is destroyed and the cleaned Domain Name email (without the virus infected attachment) is sent to the intended recipient with a message advising that a virus has been found and deleted. In certain instances, where Xtra is unable to isolate and remove the virus, the attached file or the Domain Name email itself will be deleted along with the virus. This service is provided at no additional charge to Xtra Domain Name email customers. There is, however, no guarantee that we will be able to stop all known email viruses.

Xtra Mail email customers are provided with a world class email virus protection which automatically detects and cleans viruses in incoming and outgoing email and attachments. Please be aware, however, that not all viruses can be detected and cleaned. There is a risk involved whenever you download email attachments to your computer or send email attachments to others.

You are strongly advised to maintain up-to-date anti-virus software on your computer which will provide further protection, protect you from older viruses and protect you from viruses from other sources than email attachments.

Xtra may change this policy from time to time. Changes may take the form of a completely new policy. We will tell you about any changes by posting an updated policy on our Web site. Any change applies from the date we post it on our Web site.
