Service Overview

Service Description

  1. VDSL is our faster broadband service for residential customers. Like ADSL, it connects your home to our network via a copper connection to your house. But because it runs at a higher frequency, the throughput of your connection is also generally higher. That usually means better speed as well.
  2. We offer you the option of adding extras to VDSL Unlimited. You can add a landline.
  3. If you don’t add a landline, your plan is called VDSL Naked.

  1. Our VDSL Broadband service may be offered if:
    1. standard ADSL broadband is available; and
    2. the copper line performance is good enough to run high-speed VDSL

Service Charge

  1. The monthly price for each type of VDSL Unlimited is set out below and on our pricing page. View plans and pricing schedule

* Speeds shown are industry national peak time average speeds (MBNZ March 2022). You may experience a higher or lower speed than this. Factors such as the performance of your modem, location of the server you’re connected to, the performance of your device and your in-home WiFi setup can impact the speeds experienced.

Additional Data Charges

         Not applicable.

Set Up Charge

  1. Set up charges may include a one-off non-standard installation charge (this is outlined in our Fixed Line Terms) and a one-off $14.95 modem postage fee for all new modems supplied.

Access Type

  1. Your access type will be copper VDSL. More information about access types and speeds can be found on the NZ Telecommunications Forum website.

Other Information

Minimum Contract Period

  1. The minimum contract period is 12 months.

Early Termination Fee

  1. If you terminate your plan before the end of your 12-month period, you may need to pay an early termination fee (as set out in our General Terms). The early termination fee is $199.

Notice Period (cancellation)

  1. You’ll need to give us 30 days’ notice to end your plan, as we’ve set out in our General Terms.

Other Requirements

  1. To get Naked VDSL you will need to receive your monthly bill online.

Traffic Management

  1. We might also have to pause, restrict, end or slow performance of your service if it’s necessary for us to protect our networks or manage traffic over our networks. We’ve covered this at clause 6.6 of our General Terms.

Fair Use

  1. You need to use our services fairly – we’ve set out our rules on this at clause 2.6 of our General Terms.

Effects on Other Services

  1. VDSL Broadband: As VDSL runs over a standard phone line it doesn't have adverse effects on other services in your home, like a monitored alarm, SKY TV or a fax machine. We recommend checking with the provider of any existing services like these to ensure they will operate with this service. In the event of a power outage your phone line will continue to work, assuming your phone doesn’t require power, but broadband will not.
  2. Naked VDSL Broadband: Naked broadband means you won’t have a landline. If you have a monitored home alarm, medical alarm, fax, or order pay-per-view movies, these services will no longer work without a landline. If these services are required, naked broadband is not recommended for you.

Other Charges

  1. Our VDSL packages also come with a landline. This includes free local calls. We charge for national, international and mobile calls, and offer a range of calling plans to choose from.
  2. As Naked VDSL doesn't have a landline there are no additional calling charges.
  3. Some installations require the payment of a $199 broadband wiring fee. This may occur if your connection is brand new, your line has been disconnected for some time, you're using more than 5 jack points, or you have a monitored alarm.
